Domaine Bornard was founded in 2005 by Philippe Bornard, neighbour and friend of natural wine legend Pierre Overnoy, in Pupillin in the Jura wine region.
Today it is run by his son Tony Bornard, who has his own distinct flair, bringing the wines in a new direction yet still maintaining their Jurassian style. Tony operates meticulously in both the vineyard and the winery, and in particular he manages the soils in his vineyards to ensure longevity for the vines through the health of the soil.
The winery and many of the vineyards are located near the Swiss border in the quaint commune of Pupillon which is located very close to Arbois. His wines cover two appellations - the Cotes du Jura appellation and then most of the wines are from the tiny Arbois Pupillin appellation which only applies to grapes grown in the commune of Pupillin. You will notice that in this appellation it is permitted to name the grape variety on the label – which is unusual for France.
All done sustainably, the wines are easily recognisable from their labels which all feature a ginger fox.
