Milan Nestarec is one of the new wild young winemakers from Europe and makes fantastic wines that reflect the Moravia region.

“My theme is energy in wine. It's all about energy. If energy is missing somewhere, it's boring. I must preserve the energy that nature has given me. That's my job. If I lose it somewhere along the way, then I did something wrong."

Let's not forget that it wasn't too long ago that the Czech Republic was still under Communist rule and private businesses weren't allowed. After the Velvet Revolution, the Nestarec family’s vineyards were returned to them by the state - the vineyard planted on land that had been in the family long before the Bolsheviks stole it from them in 1948. Milan’s father, who had been working in a German vine nursery - this “German period” served as an incredible source of know-how, vines and sometimes even second-hand equipment once they started to put together their own family vineyards. Bit by bit he planted and bought other vineyard plots in the Moravia region, and today they have about 30 hectares.

Manual harvest, spontaneous fermentation. Slow gentle press. No fining or filtration, no gimmicks, no magic powders. Just a bunch of tanks and old barrels, grape juice and time. The normal way, simply put.
