An incredible perry from Jean-Yves – lifted acidity, lovely perfume, and great drinkability! 10 old varieties of pears are milled then pressed before the juice is aged for 3 years in 350L barriques.

About the Producer

If you know of him then his wines need no introduction. For the uninitiated, Jean-Yves Peron’s wines are some of the most sought after.

In the mountains of Savoie, Jean-Yves Péron is reviving forgotten, ancient vineyards—his oldest parcels planted in 1893. His ultra low-production, high-altitude wines have garnered a cult following. Just pure and unfiltered expressions of the grapes and the land. Perfect for those who love their wines with a little edge and a lot of personality.

Born and raised in the Savoie, Jean-Yves Péron studied winemaking in Bordeaux in the late 90’s. After school he spent some time working for iconic winemakers like Thierry Allemand in Cornas and Bruno Schuller in Alsace; both of whom he considers his mentors.

In 2004 he began making his own wine in the alpine village of Conflans on schist-covered sloping vineyards running anywhere between 350 and 550 meters. In some ways working vineyards at these altitudes in the Alps, on slopes this steep is more like mountain climbing than winemaking.

Due to the mountainous terrain, all of his’ vineyards (divided into several micro-parcels containing Mondeuse, Jacquère, Altesse, and Roussanne) are managed very manually. Jean-Yves works organically and biodynamically (though he doesn’t see the need for certification). Some of the whites see extended maceration times, influenced by his love for  northern Italian “orange” wines and the reds tend to be made carbonically.

In 2017, tickled with curiosity, Jean-Yves ventured across the Alps in search of alternative Italian varieties. I Vincini, "the neighbours", has been his Italian project in collaboration with local winemakers ever since.
