Stemming from the Korean root words hwa and ju (or 花酒 in Chinese), HWAJU can translate to both flower wine and fire water. Naturally fermented, unfiltered rice wine made with organic rice and infused with hydrangea and chrysanthemum flowers. Inspired by the traditional herbal and flower infused sools that can only be found in Korea, the HWAJU 12 is a sayangju (4 stage fermented alcohol)that is dry, earthy, delicately floral, and bright with naturally occurring lactic acid and effervescence.
About the Producer

Hana Makgeolli is a Brooklyn based producer of artisanal Korean rice wines. Since launching in 2020, Hana’s sool is made to celebrate heritage and the labor of love. Hana Makgeolli was born from founder Alice Jun’s deep connection to Korean heritage and the joy of making makgeolli. After meeting John Limb in 2017, the two business partners set out to become the first domestic producer of traditional Korean rice wine in the US.

They use only organic rice exclusively sourced from a family farm in California, and traditional brewing methodologies. All of their cuvees are made with unpolished rice, filtered water, and nuruk – a traditional, wild fermentation starter. From their heavily sedimented, botanically infused makgeollis, to the more refined, carefully clarified Yakju, Hana Makgeolli produces an array of cuvees that demonstrate both the breadth and depth of traditional Korean alcohol production.

Like natural wines, they are farmed without pesticides, they undergo natural fermentation and have no additives or nasties added!

All of their cuvees are best served cold, and all pair well with food.

Complimentary standard delivery on orders $100+ within 3 working days. For this option, we are unable to guarantee chilled delivery.

Next Day Delivery
Complimentary delivery on orders $150+, or $25 flat fee. Orders are delivered from 12pm - 8pm. Next day delivery cut off is at 12pm. Orders must be placed by 12pm to be delivered the following day. Orders placed after 12pm will be delivered the day after. No 'next day' delivery on Sundays; only 1-hour deliveries apply. 'Next day' orders placed after Friday 12pm will be fulfilled on Monday.

There will be no next-day deliveries on Sundays, public holidays or days that the store is closed, unless otherwise announced online.

1-Hour Delivery
Complimentary delivery on orders $300+, or $35 flat fee. Orders are delivered between 12pm - 4pm. Place order by 3pm latest to receive within the hour. Orders placed after 3pm cut off will be delivered the following day. Please expect delays with unfavourable weather conditions.

Please ensure that delivery addresses, particularly for gifts, are entered correctly otherwise additional costs may be incurred.
