Pelo is a tribute to Olivier’s grandfather, Pierre, who first introduced him to wine when he was a kid and contributed to the very start of Clos des Plantes. He was a Saint- Emilion fan so it was fitting for Olivier to name this cuvée of mostly Cabernet Franc after his nickname.

The parcel “Le Bordage” (0.4 ha) is home to 60 year-old vines of Cabernet franc on schist soils with heavier clay than the chenin. Le Bordage vineyard is coplanted with grolleau and pinau d’aunis. The blend changes from year to year.

Pelo is a co-ferment of Cabernet Franc (85%) and Chenin (15%), whole cluster, in an effort to kick off fermentation faster. Followed by an 8 day maceration.

 
About the Producer

Born in the north of France, Olivier Lejeune moved to South East Asia in 2004 to work in the mobile gaming industry. After 10 years of an intense life in an over-crowded, polluted metropolis he was ready for a change of pace. His next stop was New Zealand to learn viticulture at the University of Auckland, only to quickly unlearn it after securing a position at Felton Road, an organic and biodynamic producer in Central Otago.

Upon returning to France, he spent time working at La Ferme de la Sansorrniere with Mark Angeli. This short but fruitful collaboration convinced him that Anjou was where he wanted to settle down. After receiving a tip on some available plots in Montbenault, he jumped on the opportunity and got to work revitalizing the vineyards. A believer in regenerative farming, Olivier aims to do the minimum amount of ploughing if at all, and introduces animals into the parcels.

Complimentary standard delivery on orders $100+ within 3 working days. For this option, we are unable to guarantee chilled delivery.

Next Day Delivery
Complimentary delivery on orders $150+, or $25 flat fee. Orders are delivered from 12pm - 8pm. Next day delivery cut off is at 12pm. Orders must be placed by 12pm to be delivered the following day. Orders placed after 12pm will be delivered the day after. No 'next day' delivery on Sundays; only 1-hour deliveries apply. 'Next day' orders placed after Friday 12pm will be fulfilled on Monday.

There will be no next-day deliveries on Sundays, public holidays or days that the store is closed, unless otherwise announced online.

1-Hour Delivery
Complimentary delivery on orders $300+, or $35 flat fee. Orders are delivered between 12pm - 4pm. Place order by 3pm latest to receive within the hour. Orders placed after 3pm cut off will be delivered the following day. Please expect delays with unfavourable weather conditions.

Wrong Addresses or No Recipients

Please ensure that delivery addresses, particularly for gifts, are entered correctly otherwise additional costs may be incurred.
