HENRI CHAUVET ROUGE 2022
Auvergne / Loire // France

A thoroughly charming Gamay.

All Gamay here but unusually a mixture of the Auvergne and Beaujolais variety from a plot of iron-oxide rich red clay and limestone.

Beautifully poised and balanced, we recommend grabbing a few bottles now and seeing what the beauty of time does.

Having quit his job in insurance banks, Henri Chauvet is a relatively new winemaker. He attained his viticulture and oenology diploma and trained alongside Jérôme Bressy in Rasteau as well as the legendary Thierry Allemand in Cornas.

Having fallen in love with the region and its incredible terroirs, he managed to purchase 10.5 ha of Gamay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the village of Boudes in Auvergne renowned for its historic, very steep hillsides.

The climate and soils around the village have a reputation for producing some of the most expressive Gamay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of the region. This complexity of terroir is what drew Henri to the area.

A winemaker with a clear conscience, he is super grounded in his vines and for whom natural wine is a means of achieving what he wishes to convey and transmit. He respects the land and its sense of place, the grape varieties and the vintage, making wines of real terroir. 2021 was Henri's first vintage and his goal was to discover what the different terroirs could give him. He made 10 different wines and all are fascinating.
