Origin: Burgenland, Austria
Grape: Zweigelt
The Blaufränkisch is a classic from the homeland of Blaufränkisch. It smells of blackberries, allspice and a µ vanilla, is nice and juicy (like blackberries fresh from the bush) with a bit of peppery spiciness in the finish that lasts for a long time. Phenomenal with a nice piece of meat.
Hans Schwarz, who went from butcher to winemaker, has created something big here. The Schwarz winery with its vineyards is close to the Hungarian border in Andau, the warmest place in Austria. So the last vine grows only 6 m from the border.
Hans Schwarz produced his first wines in 1999 and founded the Schwarz winery. His first "Schwarz Rot" achieved an unprecedented density and structure for the Zweigelt grape variety, partly due to the immediate cooling of the grapes in the vineyard immediately after harvesting. As a tribute to his time as a butcher, he then created the Butcher line.
