Joseph Drouhin Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru 2017

Origin: Burgundy, France

Grape: Pinot Noir

Site: located in the north of the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin is world-famous, not only for its superlative Grand Crus, but also for all its other vineyards. The Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru wines are produced on small vineyards, too small to be harvested and vinified separately. They are put together. The name given to this wine is therefore Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru.

Aged in French oak barrels (20% in new oak) for 14-18 months. Joseph Drouhin insists on total control of the weathering for a period of 3 years, one of the contributing elements to the elegance of the wine.

Beautiful, bright ruby colour. The fruity aromas (black cherry, blackberry) mingle with hints of liquorice. The nose reveals notes of spices and nutmeg evolving towards scents of mushroom. The tannin is present but not too strong. Great aftertaste.

Joseph Drouhin Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Folatieres 2016

Origin: Burgundy, France

Region: Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru

Grape: Chardonnay

Aged 12 months in French oak barrels (25% new)

92 pts Vinous - Bright pale yellow. Delicate aromas of white peach, citrus fruits, flowers, menthol, mint and noble herbs. Quite saline and dry but rich, with lemon, apple and floral flavors complicated by minerals. Really titillates the taste buds on the energetic back end, finishing with subtle, slowly building length and repeating minerality. There was a bit of frost here but not much, noted winemaker Jérôme Faure-Brac, who told me that the yield was a good 40 hectoliters per hectare. (Barrel-Score 90-92)

Beautiful harmony defines this precious wine. Golden and bright colour. The complex and distinctive aromas of Puligny are here in evidence: honey, honeysuckle, fresh almond. As the wine matures, these aromas evolve towards dried fruit notes and spice. On the palate, a very nice balance between freshness and velvety texture. There is even a firm backbone that gives this wine a strong structure. Exceptionally long on the aftertaste, with refined and floral notes throughout.
