Chardonnay, delaware, steuben - what a range of grapes! This wine from the Yagamata prefecture of Japan is from the fantastic producers Hirotaka and Reina Meguro. Housed within a former school gymnasium, ex-restaurant owner Hirotaka creates wine with precision and care. The labels are made from japanese paper, hand painted with mandarin peel. Year by year the flowers grow on the label, a little nod to the passage of time!
This wine is a blanc de noir blended with white grapes. Steuben (red grape) is direct pressed into amphora, with delaware and chardonnay barrel fermented before being left in stainless steel. This wine sings with flavours of nashi pear, white peach and blossom with a slick mineral backbone. Pair this with a delicate ceviche or just go for gold!
