Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet "Clos St Jean", 1er Cru (Rouge) 2017 - Temple Cellars

ORIGIN: France; Burgundy

GRAPE: Pinot Noir

VOL: 750ml

A much more floral-inflected nose is comprised by notes of red and dark currant, earth and a pretty spice nuance. The energetic and solidly intense medium weight flavors exude a subtle bead of minerality onto the dusty, youthfully austere and serious finish. The stems show today and this will need a few years of cellaring to better harmonize. With that said, this offers fine development potential.

– Allen Meadows,, Score: 91

Aromas of green orchard fruit, blanched almonds and wet stones introduce the 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean, a medium to full-bodied wine with a satiny attack and an expressive core of fruit, with lovely purity, chalky structure and succulent acids. While this nods towards Vergers in style it is one of the more giving 2017 from Pillot and it will drink pretty well out of the gates.

– William Kelley,, Score: 90-92
