Fall From Grace is a unique project initiated by wine lover/retailer/educator Gill Gordon-Smith in McLaren Vale. She is producing wines with a minimalistic, “Dao-ist” mentality: “following the currents.” as Gill puts it. An interesting project on the rise. This Montepulciano spends 80 days on skins inside a 300L clay amphora before being pressed and sent to old oak for a little sleep. This gentle extraction gives the wine soft, slinky tannins and generous, sumptuous fruit whilst keeping it fresh and bouncy with an approachable medium body. “Ripe cherries, dark plums, olives, sniff of herbs, choc-liquorice in the evocative, rich perfume. In the palate, fleshy and bright to taste. It’s a delicious, ripe, unctuous mouthful of wine that transports a drinker to a pretty joyous place. It’s a world away from many montepulcianos I know, but it’s happy in glass and happy-making for a drinker seeking ease, freshness, vitality. Go forth.” - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
