South Australia based Ricca Terra was established in 2003 when founders Ashley and Holly Ratcliff purchased their first vineyard in Barmera with a vision to plant, nurture and make wine from grape varieties that are best suited to Australia's warm and dry climate such as Nero d’Avola, Montepulciano, Tinta Barroca, Fiano, Vermentino and many other Mediterranean grape varieties. Ricca Terra's range is vibrant, quirky, cleverly made wines that have deliciousness as their raison d’etre. More than that though, they are a beacon for the future sustainability of a previously much derided region and it is to Ashley’s credit that other serious producers are now taking fruit from here. The wines speak for themselves - old oak is used for storage to add complexity rather than oak flavours.
They were awarded a five star rating in the 2020 and 2021 James Halliday Wine Companion, and are also listed in the Top 10 upcoming wineries in Australia.
